A warm welcome to Jean-Christophe, our newest Embedded Software Engineer

Meet Jean-Christophe – Our newest team mate

We’re thrilled to welcome Jean Christophe Bauduin to the Mind team, led by Bram Soete

Jean-Christophe joined us at Mind as an Embedded Software Engineer. He graduated in Informatics Engineering from UCL and commuted from Brussels to Leuven during his studies. He got introduced to Mind through the Job Days at UCL, you see these events are a great opportunity to connect. In his role as an Embedded Software Engineer, he focuses on developing innovative embedded solutions, applying his expertise in software engineering to contribute to the team’s success.

Welcome aboard, Jean-Christophe!

– Can you tell us a bit about your responsibilities?

J-C: I’m still relatively new to embedded systems, so at the moment, I’m focusing on getting up to speed with Buildroot. In parallel, I’m contributing to the Buildroot community by submitting fixes and working on a new website for our technical blog at MIND. On a day-to-day basis, I’m involved in developing an internal application for both MIND and Essensium, where I have the opportunity to work independently and continuously expand my skills.

– What’s the best thing about your job?

J-C: Working on embedded systems is fantastic because it allows you to interact with real-world hardware and see your code come to life. It gives you the freedom to create anything you can imagine, put your personal touch on it, and continuously refine it to perfection.

– What are the biggest challenges in your work?

J-C: The biggest challenge in working with embedded systems is the build time; every full compilation can take a significant amount of time. Embedded systems are inherently complex, with many interdependent elements. As everything is built on top of each other, digging through information can be tricky, and it’s often difficult to find relevant details from previous projects or sources.

– Which things are on your bucket list – what do you absolutely want to have done?

J-C: Private: At the moment, I’m keeping myself busy with personal matters, especially with the upcoming move. So, I’m not focusing too much on future plans right now. However, I do have a long-term interest in exploring more of Asia, particularly countries like Vietnam and Thailand. I’m excited about the possibility of experiencing the culture, lifestyle, and perhaps even professional opportunities in the region one day.

Professional: As for my professional future, I’m still figuring that out. Right now, my main goal is to gain deep expertise in embedded systems. I’m really passionate about this field and want to expand my skills further, especially in the more technical aspects. In the future, I might lean more towards the electronics side of embedded systems, but for now, I’m focused on honing my software engineering skills in this space.

– What do you do in your free time?

J-C: In my free time, I’m an avid tennis player, enjoying both the sport and the physical challenge it provides. I also like to get hands-on with technology, and one of my ongoing projects is developing IoT solutions for my home using Home Assistant. It’s a fun way to combine my interest in tech with practical applications. When I’m not coding or playing tennis, I enjoy working around the house—I already did our electrical work, plumbing, and love to do other DIY projects!
