27 Feb Colin joined our embedded software team
Meet Colin – The newest addition to our team!
Welcome to our latest employee spotlight! This week, we sat down with Colin Evrard, who joined our team the 27th of January, to learn more about his role, his experiences, and what drives him both professionally and personally.
Welcome aboard, Colin!
– Can you tell us a bit about your responsibilities?
Colin: I started at the end of January, and the onboarding process was really smooth. I was provided with all the necessary tools to get started. I’m currently awaiting my first customer project while enhancing my skills through internal training. Once I’m assigned to a project, my main responsibility will be integrating embedded software.
My journey into this field started during my time at UCL. I initially studied physics but quickly realized I had a strong passion for computer science. That’s when I decided to shift my focus, and I haven’t looked back since!
– What’s the best thing about your job?
Colin: There are so many great things about working at Mind. First, the emphasis on open-source software is something I really admire. It aligns with my personal values and interests. Second, the company treats its employees in a very humane way—there’s a lot of trust and respect, which makes for a great work environment.
Additionally, the company treats its employees in a very humane way—there is a lot of trust and respect, which creates an excellent work environment. Another highlight is the wealth of knowledge within the team. Being surrounded by so many experts in the field is inspiring, and I’m constantly learning from them.
– What are the biggest challenges in your work?
Colin: I’ve already faced a few challenges, which is part of what makes the job exciting. For instance, working with systems that have a lot of moving parts can be tricky. When something goes wrong, you often receive an error message. However, figuring out the root cause and solving the issue is where the real learning happens. It’s challenging, but also incredibly rewarding when you finally find the solution.
– Which things are on your bucket list – what do you absolutely want to have done?
Colin: On a professional level, I want to stay on the technical side of things and contribute to a widely used open-source project. Writing code that’s actually useful to people is a big goal of mine.
Outside of work, I’d love to explore the northern part of England. The landscapes there are stunning, and it’s a part of the country I haven’t had the chance to visit yet.
– What do you do in your free time?
Colin: I spend a lot of time with my girlfriend, and we enjoy watching TV shows together—especially science fiction. I also code for fun; it’s something I genuinely enjoy, even outside of work. Gaming is another hobby of mine, and I try to stay active by playing squash.
Thank you, Colin, for sharing your story with us! We’re excited to see your contributions to the team and wish you all the best in achieving your professional and personal goals.
