- Thu 23 July 2015: Remotely hacking a car
Two security researchers have found a vulnerability in a car's infotainment system giving them access to the vehicle's bus.
This gives them almost complete remote control. Details about the exploit will be presented at the Black Hat USA conference on August 5th.
The main takeaway here is that security shouldn't be an afterthought, even in constrained embedded systems.

- Thu 28 May 2015: Project Brillo
At Google's IO developer conference a new project called Project Brillo was announced. You can see the relevant part of the keynote here. Brillo is in essence a stripped down version of Android for low powered headless devices.
Another part of this is Weave, an application layer protocol built on top of IEEE 802.15.4 and 802.11.
Brillo is currently available for developer preview. The Weave specification is announced for Q4 of 2015.
